“How fast can you monetize?”
I think that question has been asked to me at least once a month since I started my business back in 2021. And it was asked by so many different people, family, friends, potential investors, even my kids! 🤣
But the truth about entrepreneurship is that getting clients or customers is one way to grow a business. But another, and more sustainable way to grow a business is to build connect with people - put simply, to build community.
Now, some of you may be reading this and saying, “Jamilia, what even is the difference between the two?”
Well, a customer is someone who buys a good or service from your business. And a community member, is someone who believes in your mission. I’d much rather have people who stick around and believe in my mission. Of course, they will at times purchase a product or service - but they are true evangelists of the cause.
My cause is to educate and inspire as many people as possible about global business, financial freedom, and raising your kids wherever you want to. It’s about freedom.
Having a community means that it doesn’t matter what you sell or offer, as long as it is related to your cause, your community will consider it. It also doesn’t matter where you live, if your product or service aligns with your cause, your community will consider it.
For example, I’ve teamed up with the team at Riverside, the podcast recording software company, to host a small gathering in Dubai this month. As many of you know, I have been podcasting for a few years now and it has been a integral part of building my brand and business.
And while this is not directly related to global business - I do think that podcasting is a great way to grow a network abroad. So, if you can, stop by. And you never know, it may just be the first day that you start building your community!
